The Basics
What should be checked when installing an AC charging unit?
Check the capacity of the electrical infrastructure
AC charging units can strain the existing electrical installation depending on the power they draw. Before installation, the existing panel and cable cross-section capacity should be verified with a three-phase voltage measurement to confirm they can safely carry the unit's load.
Grounding and residual current protection are mandatory
Charging units require a dedicated residual current device (Type B recommended) and proper grounding in line with the IEC 61851 standard — critical for both user safety and protecting the unit's own electronics.
Don't skip the commissioning test
After installation, the unit must be tested and activated for operation (commissioning) before being connected to real load. This step catches any wiring errors made during installation before they ever reach the user.
